Patchwork Assignment

Patchwork is a critical reflection on representation, cultural narratives, and colonial legacies through the lens of two artworks: Kader Attia’s Untitled (Ghardaïa) and John Frederick Lewis’s The Midday Meal, Cairo. The essay contrasts their approaches to identity, power, and orientalist perspectives, while also documenting personal learning gained through timeline research and exhibition visits. Combining visual analysis with contextual research, the piece challenges traditional Western narratives in art history and explores the importance of decolonising representation. It also captures Leah's progression in understanding how meaning is constructed and conveyed through both modern and historical works.
